A total of 240 people died on the roads during July and August 2026, representing a 4 per cent increase on the previous year. Interior Minister and Director Pere Navarro confirmed the figures during a briefing on Monday 7 September.

The summer saw 102 million road trips, a 1.5 per cent rise from 2025. While July fatalities fell by five to 110, August recorded a significant spike with 130 deaths, 15 more than the prior year. These provisional statistics cover the entire summer operation.
