Valencia housing protest ends in violent clashes

Protesters clashed with police at Valencia's Real Estate Summit following the rejection of housing decrees by the Congress of Deputies.

A major housing rights demonstration took place in central Valencia on Saturday, 3 October 2026. Starting at 11:00 at Porta de la Mar, the march concluded at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, where the Real Estate Summit 2026 for investors was being held.

Clashes erupted as protesters breached a police cordon to enter the venue. Anti-riot agents deployed rubber bullets and pepper gas after participants used fences to block their advance. The event was convened by groups including Sindicat de Llogateres.

The unrest follows the Congress of Deputies rejecting two government housing decrees on Friday. Spokesperson Andrea Leixos has now called for strike committees to be formed, aiming for a general strike in mid-November to protest ongoing market speculation.
