Man detained in Seville after fatal stabbing

A 56-year-old man is in custody after his partner died from stab wounds in La Campana, marking the 38th gender-based killing of the year.

A 56-year-old Spanish man has been detained after allegedly killing his 47-year-old partner, Vanessa Y. M., in La Campana, Seville. The victim died from stab wounds at a municipal health centre an hour after the incident, which occurred at 22:40 on 26 September.

Following the attack, the suspect barricaded himself inside a residence. The Civil Guard deployed a specialised unit to surround the property and negotiate a surrender, amid reports that the man possessed firearms. The victim's body has been sent for autopsy.

This killing follows a separate homicide in Bormujos 24 hours earlier. As of 27 September 2026, 38 women have been killed by partners this year, bringing the total to 1,379 since 2003. Authorities continue to investigate both incidents in the Seville province.
