Salvamento Marítimo rescues 107 off Lanzarote

Emergency services rescued 107 people from an inflatable boat on Wednesday night, marking the third major arrival in Lanzarote this summer.

Salvamento Marítimo rescued 107 people from an inflatable boat in international waters on Wednesday night. The operation, which began at 22:54, took place approximately 68.5 kilometres northeast of Lanzarote using the Salvamar Acrux and Salvamar Al Nair.

The rescued individuals were transported to the capital of Lanzarote, where they appeared to be in good health upon disembarkation. This incident follows two similar rescues this summer, involving 122 people on 8 July and 111 occupants on 20 August 2026.

This marks the third time during the summer of 2026 that an inflatable boat carrying over one hundred people has reached the Canary Islands. All three vessels were taken to Lanzarote, highlighting a trend of large-capacity boats arriving in the archipelago.
