Large areas of the Iberian Peninsula and Canary Islands will see temperatures exceed 35°C during the week of 14 September 2026. Aemet spokesperson Rubén del Campo reports that Monday and Tuesday will be 5°C to 10°C above seasonal norms, reaching 38°C in some valleys.
A weather front on Wednesday 16 September will trigger a 10°C drop in the northern half of the peninsula. While rain hits the Cantabrian region and Pyrenees, storms are expected in the east. Pamplona and Logroño will fall from 36°C on Tuesday to 25°C by Wednesday.
The heat poses a very high or extreme fire risk in the northern half of the peninsula this Monday. Although temperatures rise again from Friday 18 September, trade winds will eventually bring clouds and light rain to the north of the mountainous Canary Islands.
