Spain's Social Security adds 92,327 jobs in September

Foreign workers drive 91% of monthly employment growth as Spain reaches 22.4 million affiliates despite a slight rise in unemployment.

Spain's Social Security affiliation rose by 92,327 in September 2026, a 0.41% monthly increase. Total affiliations reached 22,437,553, though figures remained below the June and July peaks. Registered unemployment grew by 23,587 to a total of 2,379,505 people.

Foreign workers drove 91.2% of the monthly growth, with 84,220 new affiliates compared to 8,107 Spanish nationals. A regularization process starting in April 2026 has added 421,306 foreign workers to date. The education sector saw the largest gain of 63,499 jobs.

Annual affiliation grew by 3.41%, the highest administrative gain since 2005. Foreign worker affiliation rose 17.73% year-on-year, reaching 3,635,979 people. While sectors like commerce lost 39,917 jobs, total unemployment remains at its lowest September level since 2007.
