Barcelona supermarket hours for La Mercè 2026

Major retailers like Mercadona and Lidl will close for the local holiday on 24 September, while select express stores remain open.

Supermarkets across Barcelona will adjust their schedules on 24 September 2026 for the Mare de Déu de la Mercè local holiday. Mercadona, Lidl, and Bonpreu will close their city branches, while Consum will shut most sites except for specific Charter franchises.

Shoppers can find open stores at Carrefour Express on Gran Via and Bailén, alongside locations in Rocafort and Drassanes. Some Aldi sites will maintain 09:00 to 21:30 hours, while Mercadona stores in Martorell and Badalona will operate their usual schedules.

The closures occur because 24 September is not an authorised commercial opening holiday in Catalonia for 2026. Residents must plan ahead as major retailers like Carrefour Market on Las Ramblas and Via Laietana will remain shut during the local celebrations.
