Catalan Parliament rejects joint housing plan

Lawmakers voted down President Salvador Illa's proposal for the Generalitat to co-own properties with individuals over the age of 40.

The Parliament of Catalonia has rejected a housing proposal for joint property purchases between the Generalitat and individuals over 40. Introduced by President Salvador Illa, the plan allowed the administration to own half of a property for 50 years.

The Socialist initiative, supported by the Catalan Civil Code, failed as Junts, PP, Vox, CUP, and Aliança Catalana voted against it, while the Comuns abstained. However, the chamber approved the 50,000-home plan and new loans for youth housing projects.

In a separate vote, a motion to censure President Illa promoted by Junts was defeated. While Junts, PPC, and CUP supported the motion, Vox abstained. The Parliament also noted that counselors Silvia Paneque, Esther Niubó, and Núria Parlon remain in office.
